Den Meetings
Dens are made up of 6 to 10 boys in the same grade. Their meetings are usually held every two weeks at a den member's house or another location.
On the right den 5 is seen with a visiting police dog and his officer from the San Jose Police Canine Unit. The den learned how the police dog has special abilities which make him a valuable part of the local police force. |
Den Outings
Dens also go on field trips. Field trip destinations are chosen to enhance the program requirements as scouts work toward their next rank. Many organizations are happy to host Cub Scout dens and will often tailor their presentations toward the specific program requirements.
On the right, den 5 is seen visiting the Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley. They learned about wildlife conservation and rehabilitation. The bird on the far right is a rare albino raven that has become the mascot of the Wildlife Center. |
Pack Meetings
The pack is the collection of all the smaller dens. The pack meets once a month during the school year.
On some occasions we have our pack meetings outside at a local park, as seen above in May 2007.
|
In recent years, our October pack meeting's activity has been pumpkin carving. The boys bring a pumpkin then get creative during the activity portion of the pack meeting. The proud creative are displayed on the stage at the front of the room, and at the end of the meeting we light all of the candles inside and turn out the lights for the grand finale.

Pack Activities
During November, as part of the BSA Council's Scouting for Food drive, we collect non-perishable food for the local shelters. We have consistently collected to most food of all of the units in our district.
On the right you can see the one ton van that in 2008 we filled front to back, top to bottom with food. The other photos are at the collection center giving an indication of the amount of overall good with which that our contribution helps .

Our big event of the year are the Pinewood Derby races held at the end of January. Boys get car kits in December, then design, cut, shape, build, paint, and decorate their cars. Then on race day they compete for speed and design awards.

Cubby (our pack's mascot)
Cubby has been around and in the pack longer than any of us can remember.
Each month a different den dresses him and bring him to that month's pack meeting. They decorate him in a way that is representative of that month. On the right, Cubby is seen dressed as a surfer with dreadlocks hair, sunglasses, visor, surf board, board shorts, sandals, and a beach towel. |
